DENVER - The No. 48 Denver Pioneers ended their three-match weekend with a 5-2 win over Montana State in men's tennis action this afternoon at Meadow Creek Tennis Center. DU avenged its two losses to New Mexico (5-2) and Texas Tech (4-3) on Friday and Saturday with the solid win.
"It was nice to end a tough weekend with a win," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "But, if we want to reach the goals we set before the year started, we need all eight guys on the same page for every match."
DU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively, before claiming four singles wins to gain the 5-2 win.
Winning singles matches for the Pioneers were Martin Zimmermann (Ludwigshafen, Germany), No. 83 David Simson (Vienna, Austria), Benny Althaus (Saarbrucken, Germany) and Johan Gunnarsson (Vaxjo, Sweden). Zimmermann went 3-0 on the weekend and leads DU with a 7-2 record.
DU returns to action at BYU on Feb. 20.
