DU Tops Iowa, 4-3

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Benny Althaus' three-set win at No. 3 singles gave the No. 48 Denver a 4-3 win over No. 59 Iowa today in Iowa City. DU improves to 4-2 with its second consecutive win, while the Hawkeyes fall to 2-1

"To come back after yesterdays emotional win and do it again today was great, DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "I was hoping we would not have a let down after yesterday's win and we did not start the match off well. But, the guys responded very well again in singles."

For the second consecutive match, DU dropped all three doubles matches before claiming four singles wins. Also recording singles wins for the Pioneers were Martin Zimmermann (Ludwigshafen, Germany) at No. 1, No. 83 David Simson (Vienna, Austria) at No. 2 and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) at No. 4.

Althaus broke a 3-3 tie with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 win over Reinoud Haal at No. 3 singles.

Denver returns to action on Friday, Feb. 13 against New Mexico.
