Box Score CU-DU TOURNAMENT SITE
DENVER - The University of Denver volleyball team (3-5) fell 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-20) to the University of Colorado Buffs (4-3) in the first game of the CU-DU tournament on Friday morning in Hamilton Gymnasium.
Leading the Pioneers offensively were seniors Emmy Davidsmeyer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Alexis Ninos (Cypress, Texas) as they finished with 14 and eight kills, respectively. Also chipping in was freshman Faimie Kingsley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore Jordan Raines (Coppell, Texas) with six and four kills apiece.
Defensively, Kingsley turned in another multi-block performance for the Pioneers as she finished with four total blocks, while fellow freshman Brianna Zimlich (Fort Collins, Colo.) finished with three. Libero Kacie Wikierak (Crystal Lake, Ill.) turned in her fourth consecutive double-digit dig performance as she tallied 15.
Senior setter Clare Maxwell (Western Springs, Ill.) split time between offense and defense during the match, registering 11 assists and nine digs, while junior setter Kresson Vreeman (Raymond, Minn.) added 18 assists and seven digs.
Becah Fogle and Kerra Schroeder led the way for the Buffs as they finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Setter Kaitlyn Burkett finished with 30 assists, while Nikki Kinzer tallied six total blocks.
Up next, the Pioneers continue play in the CU-DU tournament against Cal-Poly tonight at 7 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
