Donovan and Zucker Strike Gold

SASKATOON, Saskatchewan - University of Denver defenseman Matt Donovan (Edmond, Okla.) and recruit Jason Zucker (Las Vegas) have struck World Junior gold. Donovan and Zucker helped Team USA to a dramatic 6-5 overtime win over Canada in the gold medal game at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, tonight at the Credit Union Centre.

Team USA led 5-3 on third-period goals by Jerry D'Amigo (RPI) and Derek Stepan (Wisconsin) before Canada's Jordan Eberle sent the game to overtime with two goals in the closing minutes of regulation.

John Carlson netted the game-winning goal for Team USA at 4:21 of overtime, giving the Americans its second gold medal in the event. Goaltender Jack Campbell earned the win in relief of starter Michael Lee (St. Cloud State).

Donovan tallied three goals and two assists, while Zucker added two goals for Team USA in seven games.

Former Pioneer and current Philadelphia Flyer defenseman Matt Carle helped Team USA to the gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland.
