Box Score LAS VEGAS - Redshirt senior goalkeeper Joe Willis (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded his second-straight shutout on the road, as the University of Denver played UNLV to a 0-0 draw after two overtimes on Sunday afternoon.
Denver (5-3-3, 2-0-1 MPSF) was out-shot 16-6 in the contest, but Willis, who played in just his third game after missing the nonconference portion of the schedule, recorded six saves in 110 minutes against the Rebels (4-6-1, 1-1-1 MPSF).
"Although I am very disappointed with the overall performance, I am happy to get a point on the road against a very good UNLV team," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "I am proud of the way we needed to call on a number of guys to play big minutes, and they rose to the challenge.
The Pioneers held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks, while the teams both had nine fouls.
"We have a short turnaround, and we have to do it all over again," Muuss said. We have a tough weekend ahead of us at home against New Mexico and UNLV, and we would love to get the Denver soccer community behind us."
Denver returns home to CIBER Field to face the same teams for the second-straight week with New Mexico on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. MT and UNLV on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1:30 p.m. MT., which will be available on Pioneer Vision at www.DenverPioneers.com.
