Box Score DENVER - Led by 12-kill performances from the freshmen duo of
Brea Muhle (Columbus, Neb.) and
Alex Turgeon (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.), the University of Denver volleyball team (7-11, 1-3 SBC) swept Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana-Monroe (0-12, 0-3 SBC) 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-15) on Friday evening in Hamilton Gymnasium.
"It was a very business-like approach from our team tonight because we were focused and we competed for every single point," said head coach Beth Kuwata. "This is something that we've been working on each week and with such a young team it has been a learning process. I'm proud of the way they competed tonight and I think this was a great match for us to build some confidence heading into the heart of our conference schedule."
Also contributing to the Pioneers' win was sophomore Lyndi Johnson (Flower Mound, Texas) and junior Alyssa Bonelli (Superior, Colo.) who both finished with six kills. Senior Kresson Vreeman (Raymond, Minn.) finished with 32 assists, while senior libero Kacie Wikierak (Crystal Lake, Ill.) finished with 13 digs.
Blanca Ocana led the Warhawks with six kills, while Stephanie Wardach finished with five kills and four blocks.
Denver remains at home to host four straight Sun Belt Conference matches in Hamilton Gymnasium, continuing with Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.
