Pioneers Down Trojans 3-1 in SBC Volleyball Action

Box Score

DENVER - Led by a 20-kill, 6-block performance from freshman Brea Muhle (Columbus, Neb.), the University of Denver volleyball team (9-11, 3-3 SBC) defeated the visiting University of Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans (2-13, 0-5 SBC) 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-14, 29-27) on Friday evening in Hamilton Gymnasium

"Considering the lack of healthy bodies that we were faced with this week due to cold and flu season, we had our most gutsy performance tonight," said head coach Beth Kuwata. "I'm really proud of the way we rallied together and fought for each point."

Also contributing to the Pioneers' win was junior Alyssa Bonelli (Superior, Colo.) and senior Kresson Vreeman (Raymond, Minn.) who finished with nine and eight kills, respectively. Vreeman also finished the night with 44 assists and six blocks.

Leading the way defensively was senior Kacie Wikierak (Crystal Lake, Ill.) with 19 digs, while freshman Colleen King (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) contributed 17 digs, while also finishing with four kills, four service aces and three blocks.

Jordan Erz led the Trojans with 12 kills, while setter Jennifer Elbert finished with 36 assists.

Denver remains at home to host two more Sun Belt Conference matches in Hamilton Gymnasium, continuing with Arkansas State on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 12 p.m.
