Box Score

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The University of Denver men's soccer team battled No. 8 UC Santa Barbara through regulation and into double overtime, but UCSB sophomore Waid Ibrahim scored a golden goal in the 105th minute to beat the Pioneers 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Thursday night.

After 104 scoreless minutes, UCSB's Danny Barrera made a short pass to the top of the box, which deflected off the defense, when Ibrahim gathered the ball and scored from 16 yards. The goal was the first of the season for Ibrahim, who entered the game at the start of the second overtime and had not played since Oct. 2.

Senior goalkeeper Joe Willis (St. Louis, Mo.) made 10 saves, as the Pioneers (9-7-4) were out-shot 31-4 in the contest. The Gauchos (14-4-3) took 11 corner kicks, while DU had none.

The Gauchos advance to take on No. 6 seed Cal in Berkeley, Calif., on Sunday, while Denver concluded its season with the loss. Willis ends his career tied sixth on Denver's all-time wins list with 23. Fellow senior Michael Perry (Overland Park, Kan.) was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team earlier Thursday.
