The Tigers tallied three power-play goals in the decisive second period and added six more goals in the third as Stephen Schultz had a career-night with five points on two goals and three assists. Tyler Johnson scored twice and Nick Dineen, Jaden Schwartz, Archie Skalbeck, Eamonn McDermott and Gabe Guentzel also scored for the Tigers.
Drew Shore (Denver) and Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nev.) scored for Denver and Sam Brittain (Calgary, Alberta) allowed five goals in a tough loss. The 9-2 loss marked DU's worst defeat since a 9-1 loss to Colorado College on Dec. 7, 1997.
"Colorado College was by far the better team tonight," DU head coach George Gwozdecky said. "Sam Brittain was our best player again tonight, but most of our guys weren't ready to play. This was an embarrassing loss and we'll correct it starting Monday."
Shore put Denver on the board first with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle at 6:33 of the first period. CC outshot DU, 16-7, in the opening period but went 0-for-4 on the power play due to Brittain's stellar play.
Dineen, Schultz and Jaden Schwartz then tallied consecutive power-play goals in the decisive second period to stake the Tigers to a 3-1 lead. The Tigers outshot DU, 14-4, in the period and the Pioneers took several careless penalties.
Archie Skalbeck's first career goal at 1:32 of the third period iced the win and Schultz, McDermott, Guentzel and Johnson (2) also struck in the period.
DU looked sluggish, tired and lacked effort tonight as CC outshot the Pioneers 44-17. DU also committed 16 penalties as CC went 6-for-12 with the man-advantage overall.
The Pioneers host Minnesota State on Nov. 12-13.
Notes: Shore has a three-game goal streak and 3-4=7 during his career-best four-game point streak. Zucker has a four-game goal streak. Adam Murray replaced Brittain after CC's fifth goal and allowed four goals. Murray last played against Boston College on Oct. 15.
