Pioneers Fall to Middle Tennessee 94-78 on the Road

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The University of Denver women's basketball team (13-11, 8-5 SBC) fell 94-78 to the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (18-5, 13-1 SBC) on Wednesday night in Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

With her third 20-plus point performance of the season, junior Brianna Culberson (Jefferson City, Mo.) led the Pioneers with 21 points with a perfect 6-of-6 showing from the floor, 3-of-3 from long distance and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Also contributing for the Pioneers was junior Britteni Rice (Pampa, Texas) with 14 points and four assists, while senior Ashly Robinson (Bloomington, Minn.) and sophomore Kaetlyn Murdoch (Temple, Texas) both added 13 points apiece.

Rounding out the double-figure scoring for Denver was freshman Sarah Feeney (Bismarck, N.D.) as she finished with 10 points.

Freshman Emiko Smith (Los Angeles, Calif.) once again led the pass distribution for the Pioneers as she finished the night with five assists, while also grabbing career-high six rebounds.

The Pioneers remain on the road, traveling to Denton, Texas for another SBC match-up as they will face the North Texas Mean Green in The Super Pit. Opening tip is slated for 4 p.m. MT and fans can catch all the action on FSN Rocky Mountain, Pioneer Vision or via Live Stats.

Pioneer Notes:

  • Despite the loss, the Pioneers still managed to shoot better than the Blue Raiders from the floor (56.1 percent to 50.7 percent), from three-point range (54.5 percent to 40.0 percent) and from the line (86.7 percent to 80.0 percent).
  • Culberson's 21 points for the night marks the 23rd game this season that she has finished in double figures.
  • With her 13 points, Murdoch extended her consecutive games with double figures to 14.
  • Rice's 14 points marks the 19th consecutive game that she has finished in double-figures this season.
  • Smith's five assists marks the 10th consecutive game that she has finished with three or more assists. Smith tied the record for most assists in a game by a Pioneer earlier this week as she tallied 13 against the UNC Bears. Her five assists against the Blue Raiders marks the second straight game with five assists.
  • Denver held the advantage in rebounds (35-21) and blocks (3-1).
