ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) clinched No. 63 Denver's sixth straight win this afternoon at Estes Tennis Center in Albuquerque. Weihs defeated Carl Ho 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-4 to give DU a 4-3 win over No. 50 New Mexico.
DU improves to 6-0, while New Mexico falls to 2-3.
"The guys had another great effort," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "It was great that Yannick clinched the match because he has been playing so well and deserved a good win."
After losing the first double match, DU rallied to claim the doubles point with wins from Weihs and Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) at No. 2 and David Simson (Vienna, Austria) and Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) at No. 1.
DU jumped to a 3-1 lead after wins by Landwerlen at No. 6 and Enej Bonin (Kopar, Slovenia) at No. 4. New Mexico rallied with a win at No. 5 before Weihs clinched the win.
The Pioneers host BYU on Friday, Feb. 12 at CAC-Inverness. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
