DENVER - The Pioneers posted a season-high 49.125 on vault and a 49.325 on beam to finish the regular season with a 195.700-193.300 win over Air Force at the Cadet West Gym tonight.
Sophomore Brianna Artemev (Arvada, Colo.) finished in first place on vault with a career-high 9.925, bars with a 9.850 and beam with a career-high 9.900, winning the all-around with a 39.325, another career mark. Junior Kristina Coccia (Bethlehem, Pa.) posted a 9.850 to win the floor title.
"Our focus has been on competing with excellence and I think that effort was obvious tonight," said head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart. "We ended the regular season on a high note and will be able to go into the post season with confidence."
Denver posted a 48.625 on bars to jump out to an early lead over Air Force, which posted a 48.100 on vault. The Pioneers extended their lead in the second rotation, scoring a 49.125 on vault, while the Falcons recorded a 48.000 on bars. After a 48.625 on floor in the third rotation, DU did not count a score lower than 9.825 to end the meet with a 49.325 on beam.
Other highlights included Coccia's career-best 9.750 on beam and junior Taylor Sanford's (Omaha, Neb.) career high 9.850 on vault. Sanford also tied a career mark with a 9.875 on beam.
The Pioneers will now wait to find out where they will travel for the NCAA Regional Championships, which begin on April 10.
