No. 19 Denver Defeated by No. 16 Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - Sophomore Brianna Artemev (Arvada, Colo.) won the all-around with a career high 39.300 as No. 19 Denver was defeated by No. 16 Auburn 196.225-194.350 on Friday night at the Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.

Senior Kelley Hennigan (The Woodlands, Texas) recorded a career-high 9.875 to tie for first on the uneven bars. She also finished in third place in the all-around with a 39.100. Junior Kristina Coccia (Bethlehem, Pa.) posted a 9.875 to earn a share of the floor event title.

"We had some great individual performances tonight, but we still need something to tie it all together," said head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart. "We are looking forward to competing at home for the next two meets."

The Pioneers started off the meet with a 48.250 on bars, led by Hennigan's 9.875 and a 9.825 from Artemev, but fell behind Auburn, which posted a 49.100 on vault. In the second rotation, DU recorded a 48.675 on vault, but the Tigers put up another 49.100 on bars and increased their lead to 98.200-96.925.

Coccia and Artemev scored 9.875 and 9.850 on floor, respectively, as Denver turned in a 48.925 in the third rotation. Auburn scored a meet-high 49.175 on beam and went into the final round with a 147.375-145.850 advantage. The Pioneers closed the meet with a 48.500 on beam, bringing their final score to 194.350, while Auburn scored a 48.850 on floor.

Denver will return home to face Illinois-Chicago on March 13 at 6 p.m.
