Artemev and Hennigan Place in Top 20 at Nationals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore Brianna Artemev (Arvada, Colo.) and senior Kelley Hennigan (The Woodlands, Texas) both finished in the top 20 in the all-around at the semifinals of the 2010 NCAA National Championships tonight at Florida's Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

Artemev posted a 9.800 on vault and bars and a 9.725 on beam. Her best event was floor, where she scored a 9.850 to finish tied for 13th place. Artemev finished in 11th place with an all-around score of 39.175. Hennigan recorded a 9.750 on vault, 9.775 on bars, 9.700 on beam and 9.350 on floor to finish with a 38.575 for 20th place in the all-around.

"I think that both Brianna and Kelley had strong performances tonight," head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart said. "I am proud of their efforts this season. We will miss Kelley a great deal next season, but we are excited to be able to see what Brianna can do next year."

Hennigan and Artemev are Denver's 12th and 13th individual NCAA qualifiers since turning Division I in 1984. Hennigan qualified in 2009 along with Jessica Lopez, while Karen Beer qualified in 1984, Jeanne Hoffman (1991), Donna Elliot (1992), Sachi Ena (2000), Jenny Ebdon (2000), Melanie Schiff (2000), Ashley Shible (2002 and 2004), Michelle Kasuga (2003), Heather Huffaker (2004 and 2005) and Casey Dobyns (2004 and 2006).

UCLA (196.875), Alabama (196.850), Florida (196.775), Utah (196.625), Oklahoma (196.550) and Stanford (196.300) advance to Friday's Super Six Competition. The top four individuals from each session in each event (plus ties) will compete in the individual-event competition Saturday, April 24 at 4 p.m.
