DU Rolls into SBC Shootout Finals

TROY, Ala. - The No. 29 Denver men's tennnis team rolled into the Sun Belt Shootout finals with a 4-2 win over South Alabama today at Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy, Ala. The match was decided in singles, which were played first today.

Denver (16-2) advances to the finals with its eighth straight win. South Alabama falls to 8-8. The Pioneers will play No. 65 Troy in the finals tonight.

Freshman Enej Bonin (Kopar, Slovenia) gave DU a 1-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Christian Kuehne at No. 3 and Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) increased the margin to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hanno Bartsch at No. 6.

USA tied the score at 2-2 with wins at No. 4 and No. 1, respectively, before senior David Simson (Vienna, Austria) regained the lead for DU with a 6-4, 7-6(5) win over Lucas Viel at No. 2.

Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) clinched the win with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Dauw Kruger at No. 5.
