Pioneers Cruise Past Hilltoppers, 4-0

TROY, Ala. - The 29th-ranked Pioneers cruised to a 4-0 win over Western Kentucky at the Sun Belt Conference Shootout in Troy, Ala. DU improved to 15-2 overall, while WKU fell to 8-5. The No. 1 seed Pioneers will play No. 4 seed South Alabama in the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m.

DU grabbed the early lead when they claimed victories in doubles at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. The team of Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) claimed an 8-3 victory over WKU's Quinn Saine and Currie Martin at No. 3 and the No. 1 team of Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) defeated WKU's Craig Kirchgessner and Thomas Krug 8-6 to clinch the doubles point for the Pioneers.

Denver then took control of the match, winning easily at No. 6 when Vorkefeld defeated WKU's Lance Freeman 6-0, 6-0. The Pioneers added another point when Landwerlen defeated WKU's Craig Kirchgessner 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. DU wrapped up the match with a resounding 6-0, 6-1 victory by Enej Bonin (Kopar, Slovenia) over WKU's Priyank Gangadharn - sending the Pioneers through to the winner's bracket.
