DENVER - The University of Denver women's golf team finished the 2009-10 season ranked 11th in the final Golfstat Head-To-Head Standing, its second highest ranking in program history. The Pioneers' highest ranking of eighth came at the conclusion of the 2007-08 season.
"We competed toe-to-toe with the best programs in the country this year," said head coach Sammie Chergo. "Our younger players gained much needed experience and I know we are already looking forward to putting this experience to good use next year."
Denver finished with an adjusted scoring average of 74.74 and an average drop score of 78.91, while grabbing two tournament wins in the process. The Pioneers toughness of schedule was ranked 20th in the nation.
UCLA led the Golfstat rankings with a 73.03 adjusted scoring average, while Southern California (73.56), Arizona State (72.78), Arizona (73.35) and Duke University (73.82) rounded out the top-five.
Individually, freshman Kimberly Kim (Pahoa, Hawai'i) finished the season ranked 40th in the nation with a 73.67 scoring average, while senior Stephanie Sherlock (Barrie, Ontario) finished 82nd with a 74.59 average.
Last season, the Pioneers finished 13th in the final rankings.
