Swimming Announces the Signing of Two to NLIs

DENVER-The University of Denver swimming head coach Brian Schrader announced the signing of Tanner Krall and Doug Mackenzie to National Letters of Intent to compete for the Pioneers next season.

Krall (Pueblo, Colo.) is a three-time 4A state champion in the 100 yd breaststroke and holds the 4A Colorado record in the event with a 56.02, the second fastest time in Colorado high school history. He is ranked 11th in the nation with a time of 1:55.89 in the 200 individual medley. A stellar student as well, Krall is a two-time National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-American and graduated 18th in his class at Pueblo Centennial High School with a GPA of 4.45.

"It is always our goal to have the top swimmers in the state come to Denver, and Tanner has made his mark already through his age group and high school career that he is one of the best around in Colorado. I think he has the potential to qualify for the NCAA Championships and the Olympic Trials and I am excited to help him develop that here at DU," Schrader said. "He is an outstanding student and a great team player, which is always what we want. We couldn't be more excited to have him as part of this recruiting class."

Joining Krall is Silver Spring, Md. native Mackenzie, who graduated from Gonzaga College High School. He holds school records in the 200 freestyle, 200 IM and was part of their 400 Freestyle Relay team that holds both the school and league record. A four-time All American, Mackenzie swam in Senior Nationals in December 2009. Taking a year off after graduating, he served as the assistant coach of the Gonzaga swim team while continuing to train.

"Doug is a great freestyler, and is going to come in and help us right away in the 100 and 200, as well as on relays," Schrader said. "We are excited to have him be a part of a great class of men we have coming in. He has had great experience with his club at Juniors and at the regional level and he will have an immediate impact on the team."
