DENVER -University of Denver senior guard Kyle Lewis (Denver, Colo.) was selected as captain of the men's basketball team for 2010-11, fourth-year head coach Joe Scott announced today.
"Kyle has demonstrated tremendous leadership during his three years at Denver," Scott said. "He is a hard worker and does everything asked of him. His number one priority is the success of our team, and that is our definition of captain."
A Colorado native who attended nearby Kent Denver High School, Lewis has started 86 of 91 career games with the Pioneers, averaging 5.6 points and 1.4 assists. Lewis helped lead the Pioneers to a 19-13 overall record and 10-8 mark in the Sun Belt Conference. The Pioneers advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Tournament for just the third time in team history and the first time since 2005.
A leader in the classroom, as well, Lewis has made the Sun Belt Conference Honor Roll in each of his three years and earned a 3.47 grade point average in 2009-10.
