Pioneers Fall to Florida Atlantic, 3-1

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of Denver volleyball team (6-11, 0-3 SBC) fell 3-1 (23-25, 29-27, 14-25, 18-25) to Florida Atlantic University (9-8, 1-1 SBC) on Saturday evening at FAU Arena in Boca Raton, Florida. Freshman Alex Turgeon (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.) led the Pioneers with 16 kills, while junior Alyssa Bonelli (Superior, Colo.) added 10 kills.

Leading the way in assists was senior Kresson Vreeman (Raymond, Minn.) with 39 assists. Senior libero Kacie Wikierak (Crystal Lake, Ill.) finished with 17 digs to lead Denver defensively, while freshman Colleen King (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and sophomore Lyndi Johnson (Flower Mound, Texas) finished with 15 and 11 digs, respectively.

Christina Wallinger led the Owls with 14 kills, while Kristyna Dzmuranova and Georgia Robinson added 13 and 12 kills, respectively.

Denver returns home to host five straight Sun Belt Conference matches in Hamilton Gymnasium, beginning with Louisiana-Monroe on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. and Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. Friday night's match against the Warhawks will be available on Pioneer Vision.
