Pioneers Top Jaguars 3-1

MOBILE, Ala.- The University of Denver volleyball team defeated the University of South Alabama Jagars 3-1 on Saturday evening at Jag Gym in Mobile, Ala. After dropping the first set 25-23, the Pioneers took the next three sets 25-19, 26-24 and 25-13 to improve to 10-12 overall, 7-3 in SBC play. The loss drops the Jaguars to 7-14 overall, 2-7 in SBC play.

After a career-high night the evening before, junior Faimie Kingsley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way once again with 16 kills and five blocks, while sophomore Brea Muhle (Columbus, Neb.) chipped in with 12 kills and a .458 hitting percentage.

Redshirt senior Julia Cawthra (Lakewood, Colo.) finished the night with 43 assists, her second straight game with 40+ assists. Junior Lyndi Johnson (Flower Mound, Texas) finished with 26 digs, while freshman Kate Acker (Waukesha, Wis.) tallied seven digs to go along with eight kills.

Amber Wyatt led the way for the Jaguars with 13 kills, while Melissa Waelter contributed 12 kills and 12 digs.

Next up, the Pioneers travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. MT.
