Denver Sweeps UALR on the Road

DENVER - The University of Denver volleyball team handed the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans their first home loss of the season with a 3-0 sweep on Saturday evening at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock, Ark. The Pioneers turned in scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-13 to improve to 7-11 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Trojans slipped to 8-13 overall, 3-4 in SBC action.

Redshirt freshman Cassie Ronda (Chandler, Ariz.) led the Pioneers with 12 kills, while junior Faimie Kingsley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 10 kills and eight blocks. Ronda also finished the night with three blocks and four digs. Redshirt freshman Kate Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) contributed eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage, to go along with three blocks and seven digs.

Redshirt senior Julia Cawthra (Lakewood, Colo.) led the way with 40 assists and also tallied eight digs and two blocks. Defensively, junior Lyndi Johnson (Flower Mound, Texas) finished the night with 16 digs to go along with one kill and one assist.

Edina Begic led the Trojans with 14 kills, while Marleen de Zoete tallied 30 assists.

Up next, the Pioneers head to Denton, Texas, to take on the Mean Green of North Texas on Monday evening at 6 p.m. MT.
