SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The No. 12 University of Denver gymnastics team defeated Sacramento State by a score of 193.975-191.675 on Friday night at the Hornets Nest in Sacramento, Calif.
"With two road meets this weekend, we altered our lineups tonight to make sure we're prepared for Sunday at UCLA," said head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart. "This was a bit of a recovery meet for us, and the timing worked out perfectly for the team as we get ready for the final meets of the season. The team continues to show character, teamwork and excellence, and they'll be ready to go on Sunday."
Junior Brianna Springer (Arvada, Colo.) won the all-around with a score of 38.750. Freshman Jorie Hall (Denver, Colo.) took home the event title on balance beam with a 9.850, while Springer won the floor, uneven bars and vault events with scores of 9.875, 9.875 and 9.800, respectively.
DU posted a 48.400 on uneven bars in the first rotation to take a slight 48.400-48.225 lead into the second rotation. Denver posted a 48.675 on vault, led by Springer and freshman Moriah Martin (Lake Mary, Fla.), who scored a 9.775.
In the third rotation, Denver penciled in a 48.700 floor exercise, then charted a 48.200 on balance beam to round out the scoring in the fourth rotation.
The Pioneers will continue their road trip when they travel to Los Angeles to face two ranked opponents in No. 9 UCLA and No. 21 Minnesota at the John Wooden Challenge on Sunday. UCLABruins.com will host a free live video and audio feed, along with live scoring.
