SAN DIEGO - No. 67 Purdue beat Denver, 4-3, in the first round of the Hilton Mission Valley Spring Classic at Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego on Thursday.
The Boilermakers improve to 8-5 and advance to the semifinals against San Diego State on Friday. Denver falls to 2-10 with its seventh straight loss and plays No. 53 Princeton in the consolation bracket.
Denver claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Andrew Landerwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Jens Vorkefeld defeated Szymon Tatarczk and Pawal Poziomski 8-2 at No. 1, while Enej Bonin (Koper, Slovenia) and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) beat Eric Ramos and Krisztian Krocsko 8-4 at No. 2.
No. 50 Bonin beat Krocsko 7-6(6), 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Weihs beat Tatarczk 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
