DU Winning Streak Reaches Six

DENVER - The No. 73 Denver men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 4-3 win over Central Florida today at Pinehurst Country Club.

DU improved to 9-12 with its sixth consecutive win, while Central Florida fell to 9-13.

"I am very happy the way we have closed out our regular season with six straight wins," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "This should give us some great momentum and confidence heading into the conference tournament. This team has trusted our philosophy of daily improvement and now have some wins to show for it. It was great to have both Drew and Roonie compete well on Senior Day."

After dropping the doubles point, DU clinched the match with four straight wins at the top of the lineup.

Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria), Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany), Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) each recorded singles wins for DU. The clinching win was the third in the last four matches for Clinkenbeard. Landwerlen gutted out a three-set win on Senior Day, while Varun Gunaseelan (Chennai, India) battled in a loss at No. 5 singles.

DU will compete at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on April 21-23.
