Box Score DENVER - The University of Denver Pioneers (3-9) defeated in-state rivals No. 19 Colorado State (6-3) 3-1(27-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22) on Friday evening in Hamilton Gymnasium. The win marks the first time that the Pioneers have defeated a ranked opponent since becoming Division I in 1999.
"I couldn't be more proud of how our team performed tonight," said head coach Beth Kuwata. "All of the hard work and attention to those minor details is really starting to pay off and I am so happy for them that they were able to come out tonight and show that tonight."
Junior Faimie Kingsley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 15 kills and a 56.0 hitting percentage to go along with seven blocks and four digs. Sophomore Alex Turgeon (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.) and freshman Kate Acker (Waukesha, Wis.) added seven kills apiece, while redshirt freshman Kate Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) added six kills, 14 digs and four blocks.
Redshirt senior setter Julia Cawthra (Lakewood, Colo.) finished the night with 37 assists, while junior libero Lyndi Johnson (Flower Mound, Texas) finished with 15 digs.
