Denver Suffers First Conference Loss of Season

DENVER – The University of Denver volleyball team dropped its first conference match of the season, losing to the Florida International Golden Panthers (FIU) in four sets, 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 19-25). The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-1 in conference action, 4-10 overall.

Junior middle blocker Faimie Kingsley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued her dominant play, leading Denver with 16 kills and also tallying three digs and four blocks. Redshirt-freshman Cassie Ronda (Chandler, Ariz.) also played well for the Pioneers, finishing with 10 kills and four digs. Junior Lyndi Johnson (Flower Mound, Texas) led DU with 15 digs and three assists.

Despite falling 3-1, the Pioneers remained competitive throughout the match and claimed the second set 25-23 to take a 1-1 tie heading into the intermission.

The Pioneers make their first conference road trip of the season next weekend as they travel to Louisiana to take on Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday at 6 p.m. MT and Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday at 5 p.m. MT.
