LUBBOCK, Texas - The Denver men's tennis team opened the 2012 spring dual season with a convincing 6-1 win over Tulane Saturday night at Lubbock, Texas.
DU (1-0) won all three doubles matches and five singles matches to claim the win. Tulane falls to 0-2 with the loss.
Enej Bonin (Koper, Slovenia), Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany), Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany), Othar Kordsachia (Hamburg, Germany) and Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) each recorded singles victories.
Bonin and Vorkefeld beat Joe Young and Idan Mark 8-7 at No. 1 doubles. Weihs and Kordsachia beat Shaye Wali and Coby Kramer-Golinkoff 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Biasion and Max Krammer (Perchtoldsdorf, Austria) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Adam Bernstein and Rodrigo Rappaccioli.
"I was very happy with the energy we had to start the match," DU sixth-year head coach Danny Westerman said. "It was easy to tell the boys were fired up to start the season and we beat a solid Tulane team. I'm excited to see how we match up against a top team in Texas Tech tomorrow."
The Pioneers battle No. 22 Texas Tech Sunday at 8 a.m. MT.
