DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team will welcome
Roman Glarner and
Rafe Samuel for the 2026-27 season, head coach
Drew Eberly announced on Thursday.
Glarner is from Schwanden, Switzerland, and ranks fourth in the country in his age group. So far in 2025, he earned his first ATP and ITF elite points and was the runner up at a tournament in Buchs, Switzerland. He achieved a career high ITF junior ranking of No. 511 and peaked at No. 1385 in the ITF men's rankings earlier this fall.
During his junior career, he amassed top-three finishes in singles and doubles across more than a dozen European tournaments. In 2024, he advanced to both finals at the J60 tournament in Ickern, Germany, and won the doubles title. He also won the doubles title at the J100 Loughborough, England, tournament last season.
Samuel calls Bournemouth, England, home and ranks as the No. 9 player in the British U18 rankings. He achieved a career high ITF junior ranking of No. 377 earlier this summer in the lead up to playing in the qualifying draw in boys' singles at Wimbledon. He also made semifinal runs at ITF tournament in San Jose, Costa Rica, and earned a win over the world's No. 82-ranked junior at the J300 tournament in Roehampton, England.
In doubles, he has advanced to the final of more than a half dozen tournaments since 2024, capturing wins at the J100 San Jose (Costa Rice) and J30 Bradfield (England) tournaments. He also owns two British tour titles from 2025.
Glarner and Samuel will join a Denver men's tennis team that is preparing for the spring 2026 dual season and will seek a third consecutive Summit League title in DU's final season in the league. When Glarner and Samuel begin play with the team, Denver will be a member of the West Coast Conference.
