No. 73 Harvard Tops Denver 4-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 73 Harvard beat Denver 4-0 in men's tennis action Friday at the Harvard Kickoff in Cambridge, Mass. The Pioneers fall to 1-2 with the loss, while the Crimson improve to 1-0.

"We got pretty banged up today with several guys playing hurt and Enej (Bonin) out," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "But, we fought very hard and gave ourselves a shot."

Freshman Othar Kordsachia (Hamburg, Germany) took Christo Schultz to three sets at No. 4 singles, winning the first set 6-3, but losing the final two sets 6-4, 6-3.

Sophomore Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) lost to Harvard's Shaun Chaudhuri 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and junior Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) lost to Alex Steinroeder 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Senior Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) and juniors Max Krammer (Perchtoldsdorf, Austria) and Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) did not complete their matches.

In No. 1 doubles action, Vorkefeld and Kordsachia lost 8-5 to Casey MacMaster and Alistair Felton, while Weihs and Biason lost 9-8 to Shultz and Jonathan Peralman at No. 2 doubles. Krammer and Clinkenbeard did not finish their doubles match.

Denver competed in singles action against No. 66 DePaul Friday afternoon, and will complete the doubles portion of the match at 10:00 a.m. MT on Saturday, Jan. 28. The Pioneers play No. 67 Drake Saturday afternoon.
