Box Score HOUSTON- The University of Denver men's soccer team and Houston Baptist played to a 1-1 draw in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Play on Friday night at Sorrels Field.
"I'm really proud of the effort and perseverance our guys showed, getting a goal back in a tough place to play," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "That's a Houston Baptist team that's going to win a lot of games at home this year. We allowed another goal on a set piece, which is something defensively we are going to have to work on. Overall, the guys fought hard to get back into the match and get a result."
The Huskies (2-5-1, 0-1-1 MPSF) took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute on a corner-kick headed goal by George Kelley off Thilo Borgmann's set piece.
Denver (5-2-3, 0-1-1 MPSF) got its equalizer early in the second half on a golazo off the boot of junior forward Zach Bolden (Denver, Colo.). Bolden turned the Huskies over in the midfield, took a couple of touches and then uncorked a shot from 30 yards out into the upper-left corner and past HBU keeper Zach Harwerth, who relieved starting keeper Kevin Suarez of his duties after the intermission.
Houston Baptist held a 17-13 advantage in shots and the Pioneers held a 6-4 edge in corners. Both teams kept five shots on target in the match.
The Pioneers will wrap-up their three-match MPSF road stretch at No. 5 New Mexico on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.
