No. 51 BYU Blanks Pioneers, 7-0

DENVER - The University of Denver battled hard, but lost 7-0 to BYU in regional men's tennis action late Friday night at Pinehurst Country Club. The Crimson and Gold fall to 3-7 with the loss, while the No. 51 Cougars improve to 7-5.

The doubles tandem of Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Othar Kordsachia (Hamburg, Germany) claimed DU's lone victory with a 7-6 win over Keaton Cullimore and Michael Eraso at No. 3 doubles.

Denver lost five three-set singles matches in the match that could've gone to either team.

"We played well for 99 percent of the match, but didn't trust ourselves for the last one percent," DU head coach Danny Westerman said. "When we have multiple match points in four of six singles matches, we are obviously playing well enough to win. We continue to fight as hard as any team out there, but we need to execute at the end of sets. I know this team has the talent, competitiveness and work ethic to be successful. We will learn from this loss and be a better team the next time out."

The Pioneers host New Mexico on Sunday, Feb. 26. First serve is set for 10 a.m. at Pinehurst Country Club.
