Pioneers Fall to Vandals 3-0 to Open WAC Action

Box Score

MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Denver volleyball team opened Western Athletic Conference falling 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, 22-25) to the Idaho Vandals on Thursday night at the Memorial Gym in Moscow, Idaho.

"Idaho is a good team that runs a very fast offense," said head coach Jesse Mahoney. "We knew we needed to win the serve-pass game to have success defensively and we struggled to do that. Now that we have entered conference play we need to have the mental toughness to be able to play with composure in a hostile atmosphere."

Senior Faimie Kingsley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Colleen King (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) led the Pioneers with seven kills apiece, while Kingsley added six blocks and King finished with five. Sophomore setter Frances Carroll (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) finished with 21 assists, while freshman setter Bailey Karst (Aurora, Colo.) added eight assists.

Senior libero Lyndi Johnson (Flower Mound, Texas) posted 11 digs and sophomore Kate Acker (Waukesha, Wis.) tallied seven digs.

Allison Walker led the Vandals with 12 kills, while Alex Sele and Alyssa Schultz finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Up next, the Pioneers remain on the road, traveling to Seattle, Wash., to take on Seattle at 7 p.m. MT on Saturday. Fans can watch the game live on Pioneer Vision and follow along live on Live Stats.
