Box Score DENVER - The University of Denver men's soccer team took the lead early in the second half, but finished the match level with UC Davis 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at CIBER Field at the University of Denver of Soccer Stadium.
"As a program, we are very disappointed that we didn't get the full three points today," said head coach Bobby Muuss of DU's second-straight tie. "For this program to take the next step moving forward, we have to find a way to win matches like the two we played this weekend."
Senior defender Blake Shannon (Houston Texas) opened the scoring in the 49th minute. Fellow senior Josh Wren (Tulsa, Okla.) started the scoring opportunity on a corner kick that was left bouncing a couple of times in the box before Shannon sent a bullet into the back of the net from 14 yards out to give the Pioneers (1-0-2) a 1-0 lead.
The goal was the first allowed by the Aggies (1-0-3) in their first 359 minutes of play this season.
UC Davis leveled the match in the 74th minute on a Pat Reese goal from seven yards out. Ryan Gross served the cross into Reese on the equalizer, sending the Pioneers into overtime for the third time in three games this season.
The Pioneers held a 21-14 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corners.
Denver will play the third game of its five-game homestand next Saturday, when the Pioneers host Saint Louis at 7 p.m. MT.
