Box Score Denver – University of Denver men’s soccer redshirt junior Reid Hukari (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) recorded a goal and an assist in the Pioneers 4-0 win over IUPUI on Saturday night at CIBER Field.
Denver pushes its unbeaten streak to seven games and now sits at 6-3-3 overall and 2-0-0 in The Summit League. IUPUI moves to 1-9-3 on the season with a 1-1-1 record in conference play.
“I thought we started well,” said head coach Bobby Muuss. “It got sloppy toward the end, but I felt that from the very first whistle, the guys really wanted the game. The seniors really stepped up, especially Zach, and in a game like this it was great to see the whole group working together.”
Hukari scored for the Pioneers in the 14th minute with a shot to the far post following a pass into the box from senior Zach Bolden (Denver, Colo.). Senior Cole Chapleski (Broomfield, Colo.) was also credited with an assist for his pass to Bolden.
Bolden found the back of the net in the 21st minute with a shot to the bottom near post after a pass from sophomore Chandler Crosswait (Bedford, Texas).
Sophomore Karsten Hanlin (Centennial, Colo.) scored in the 53rd minute off a pass from Bolden. Hanlin chipped the ball over the Jaguar’s goaltender, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 lead.
Coming off a rebound off an IUPUI defenseman, freshman Kyle Morlack (Goodyear, Ariz.) knocked the ball into the net for Denver’s fourth goal of the game. The rebound was caused when junior Kasey Esponda (Buffalo, Why.) went for a pass to Morlack.
Junior Oliver Brown (Louisville, Ky.) recorded his fourth shutout of the year with two coming against Summit League opponents.
The Pioneers out-shot the Jaguars 23-6 and had two corner kicks.
