Box Score FARGO, N.D. – The University of Denver volleyball team continued its winning streak in conference play by sweeping North Dakota State on Saturday evening at Bentson Bunker Field House in Fargo, N.D. Denver won by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-18.
The win brings the Pioneers to 10-7 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in The Summit League play, while the Bison fall to 1-15, 1-2 in league play.
“It was a complete effort by our team tonight,” said head coach Jesse Mahoney. “We were extremely low error offensively and once again were able to spread the ball around to all six attackers. Defensively we were very engaged and created a lot of point-scoring opportunities. Winning on the road is the key to conference success and we were very focused on this trip.”
Freshmen Nola Basey (Lyons, Colo.) and Moni Corrujedo (El Paso, Texas) led the Pioneers with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, while senior Brea Muhle (Columbus, Neb.) finished with eight kills. Basey also finished with 12 digs and one block.
Sophomore setter Tori Moons (Visalia, Calif.) finished with 22 assists, while senior Colleen King (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) finished with 17 assists, five kills, two blocks and nine digs. Sophomore Sarah Schmid (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the Pioneers with five blocks, while defensive specialist Kate Acker (Waukesha, Wis.) tallied 13 digs.
Denver remains on the road, traveling to Vermillion, S.D., to take on South Dakota on Friday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. MT.
