Box Score Rochester, Mich. – University of Denver men’s soccer freshman Eric Kronenberg (Boulder, Colo.) scored in the 65th minute, as the Pioneers came from behind to battle the University of Oakland to a 1-1 tie at OU Soccer Field on Monday night.
The tie extends the Pioneers’ (5-3-3, 1-0-0 Summit) point streak to six games, going 4-0-2 in those matches.
“We have to give Oakland a lot of credit,” head coach Bobby Muuss said. “I feel like we wasted 45 minute of the game, but we came out in the second half and began to play the style we wanted to.”
Oakland (4-2-5) got on the board first with a goal from Joey Tinnion in the 62nd minute. Tinnion broke through DU’s defenders into the box and struck the ball inside the far left post after receiving a pass from Gavin Hoy.
The Pioneers would respond with a goal of their own just three minutes later. Kronenberg found the back of the net inside the far left post, coming off a rebound just seconds after sophomore Jordan Schweitzer’s (Everett, Wash.) shot was saved by Oakland goaltender Sean Lewis.
“I was proud of the way the boys came back and fought to tie the game,” Muuss said. “This is a good group of guys when we play our game for 90 minutes. They need to know that and believe it. We will regroup and be ready for our conference game on Saturday.”
Denver outshot Oakland 3-1 in the overtime periods, but was outshot 13-12 by OU during the game.
