PROVO, Utah - The No. 52 University of Denver men's tennis team fell to No. 50 Brigham Young University, 5-1 in Provo, Utah, on Saturday.
The Pioneers battled the BYU Cougars in doubles play, but were unable to take the early 1-0 lead. Senior Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) and his partner Henry Craig defeated Travis Fillmore and Spencer Smith, 8-5. In No. 3 doubles, junior Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) and sophomore Luke Manley (Edmonton, Alberta) fell to Keaton Cullimore and John Pearce, 8-7 (7).
In singles play, the Pioneers were unable to gain the edge. However, Craig claimed a three-set victory over BYU's Cullimore, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (5) to cap off an impressive weekend.
The Pioneers return home for their next match on Friday, Feb. 22 against Northwestern at CAC Inverness. The match starts at 4 p.m. (MT).
