Denver, Colo. - The University of Denver No. 53 men's tennis team fell to Wichita State, 4-2 at CAC Monaco on Saturday.
The Pioneers surrendered two of three doubles matches and went into singles play trailing, 1-0.
The Pioneers were again without senior No. 47 Enej Bonin (Koper, Slovenia) who has been sidelined with an injury. Senior Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) played in the No.1 singles spot but fell to Matheus Pereiria, 6-3, 6-4. Redshirt senior Max Krammer (Perchtoldsdorf, Austria) defeated Ilija Cuic 7-5, 6-4 and Freshman Henry Craig claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Wichita State's Tomislav Gregurovic in No. 3 singles play to give the Pioneers two points.
Junior Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) suffered an arm injury in his 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 loss to Guillermo Nicol and was forced to serve underhand in order to finish the match.
"Give Wichita credit for coming here and getting the win." said Head Coach Danny Westerman. "It is just extremely unfortunate to have another injury today."
The Pioneers next match is Saturday, March 2 against Nebraska. The match will take place at Gates Tennis Center at 12 p.m. (MT).
