No. 58 Pioneers Defeat UT-Arlington, 4-1

ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Denver No. 58 women's tennis team defeated UT- Arlington on Thursday in Arlington, Texas.
The Pioneers won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Emma Isberg (Tyreso, Sweden) and sophomore Mandy van den Eerenbeemt (Best, Netherlands) defeated UTA’s Giada D’Ortona and Brook Scott 8-6 in No. 2 doubles play. Junior Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and freshman Kathryn Hughes (Wrexham, Wales) won their second straight match since being paired together 8-7 over Katar Dikosavljevic and Christine Foote.
All three Pioneer seniors won their singles matches. Sophia Bergner (Schechen, Germany) beat Dikosavljevic 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Steffi Rath (Höchst, Austria) defeated Liucija Smaizyta in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Isberg claimed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback victory over UTA’s Brook Dennis. The 4-1 victory improves the Pioneers to 8-3 this spring season.
Denver wraps up their back-to- back from Arlington today with a neutral site dual against Idaho.
