DENVER - The University of Denver men's tennis team defeated Utah State 4-0 on Friday. The win improves the Pioneers to 9-11 overall and 5-0 in Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play.
The Pioneers claimed two of three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead.
In singles, freshman Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) defeated Utah State's Matt Sweet 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot. Senior Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Fredrik Peterson in No. 2 singles. Junior Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) beat Curran Wearmouth 6-4, 6-1 to pick up the decisive fourth point and defeat Utah State, 4-0.
The Pioneers final regular season match is Sunday, April 21 at Idaho. The match begins at 9 a.m. (MT).
