Box Score Oct. 10, 2014 Denver 1-0 UIC
DENVER - Kosta Kordistos drilled a 20-yard blast from the top of the box in the fifth minute for the only goal of the match as the University of Denver stopped UIC 1-0 for their 13th consecutive win at CIBER Field. Karsten Hanlin earned the assist with a nice 10-yard lead pass to Kordistos who found the upper right corner of the net for his third goal of the season.
"It was a great buildup," Kordistos, a senior, said of his goal. "Karsten played a little through ball to me. I turned and hit it perfectly. Somebody has to finish. Luckily it was me today."
The Pioneers are now 7-4-1 as sophomore keeper Ryan Massey picked up his first career shutout in the non-league matchup. The Flames, out of the Horizon League, fall to 5-4-2.
"We've let up some late goals and even some early ones in the second half after we had leads," said DU head coach Bobby Muuss. "So I was pretty proud of the way the whole team came together today. Some big time blocked shots toward the end and finished the game off nicely.
Next on the docket for the Pioneers will be a trip to Tampa next week to take on the University of South Florida Bulls. Kickoff for Wednesday night's match is set for 5:30 mountain time.
