"We played really well tonight and had a different lineup. We've tweaked a couple of things, so the first set took us a bit to get into a good rhythm. In set two and three, the change we were hoping to see happened. As we go on the road this Tuesday, the success that we had tonight should carry through," head coach Jesse Mahoney commented.
Regarding the 'Dig Pink' portion of the match, Mahoney added, "It's a great cause. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Dig Pink Foundation does a great job promoting it in collaboration with our sport. Many of our players and their families have been affected by this cause, so we were excited to do it."
The Pioneers (19-4, 8-1 Summit League) never trailed in the final set, soaring 25-15 over the Jackrabbits.
Senior setter Bailey Karst (Aurora, Colo.) finished the match with 35 assists, more than doubling that of the opponent's leader (13). Seniors Erica Denney (Aurora, Colo.) and Kate Acker (Waukesha, Wash.) also led the University volleyball team to victory. Denney provided five blocks and Acker had 14 digs and two aces.
Denver will open the Summit League home portion of its schedule as the Pioneers travel to Fargo, North Dakota for Tuesday's match against North Dakota State. The game will begin at 6:00 p.m. MT in Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
