OMAHA, NEB - The Denver Pioneers took their thirteenth sweep of the 2014 season against the Omaha Mavericks on Friday night (25-23, 25-19, 25-19). With this victory, the Crimson and Gold improve to 20-5 on the season (9-2 Summit), as Nebraska-Omaha goes on with a record of 9-15 (4-7 Summit).
Collectively, Denver had 41 kills over the Mavericks at a .237 hitting rate. Sophomores Nola Basey and Moni Corrujedo were responsible for 26 kills; Basey had 14 at a .267 hitting rate and Corrujedo had 12 at a .194 hitting rate. Senior Bailey Karst recorded 32 assists for offense, while fellow senior Kate Acker led in digs with 19.
"It's nice to get a quality road sweep against a very scrappy Omaha team. We blocked well and were very organized defensively holding UNO to a very low attack percentage. After being on the road all week, we are looking forward to playing at home Sunday," head coach Jesse Mahoney commented.
