Nov. 3, 2014 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Denver freshman right winger Danton Heinen (Langley, B.C.) has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Heinen continued his strong start to his rookie campaign, scoring a pair of goals to help Denver split with No. 5 Boston College. Heinen scored both goals in Denver's 2-1 overtime win Saturday for his first multi-goal game as a Pioneer. The Bruins prospect scored the first goal of the game seconds into the second period before tallying the game-winner with less than a minute to play in overtime to earn first star of the game honors. Heinen also posted a +2 rating in Saturday's win and was +2 in the series with BC.
Denver moved up to 10 in the USCHO.com Poll and fell to No. 12 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll this week. The Pioneers will continue their seven-game homestand on Friday when Denver resumes NCHC play against Western Michigan. Both games this weekend will be streamed live on Pioneer Vision.
