DENVER – The Denver Pioneers hockey team moved up to No. 4 in both the latest USCHO.com and USA Hockey polls that were released on Monday.
DU, which was previously No. 9 on the USCHO.com ranking and No. 11 on the USA Hockey list, is coming off a road sweep of then-No. 4 Western Michigan to start of conference play last weekend. Denver won 3-1 on Friday before earning a 6-3 victory on Saturday.
Michigan State stayed at No. 1 and is now the unanimous top team in the nation in both polls after the Spartans beat then-No. 3 Penn State in each game of their series. Michigan stayed at No. 2 while Minnesota Duluth moved up four spots to No. 3 in the rankings. PSU dropped behind the Pioneers at No. 5, while Western Michigan fell to No 9/8 in the polls after its two losses.
The NCHC has five ranked teams, which ranks as the second-most among all conference behind Hockey East (seven). The league is tied with the Big Ten for the most squads in the top 10 with four, with North Dakota joining UMD, DU and WMU at No. 6. Colorado College moved up to No. 17, while the other four league members—Arizona State, Miami, Omaha and St. Cloud State—also received votes in at least one of the polls.
