Colorado Springs- The Pioneer Women Swimming and Diving team took I-25 south to Colorado Springs for today's meet against Air Force and Grand Canyon University.

The meet started off strong when Johanna Roas, Amanda Sanders, Sam Corea, and Drew Matthews with a time of 1:43.75 in the 200. Another top finish was nabbed by Sam Corea when she swam to victory in the 100 back stroke. Her time of 55.06 was a second and a half ahead of the second place finisher from Grand Canyon. Her strong day continued when she won the 200 backstroke with a time 2:00.52.

In the 1000, Tyra Rooney fell just short of winning the heat. She finished in second for the race. She was not alone towards the top of the final standings. Tyra was joined by Nicole Cassu in the top 5 finishers of the race.

Coach Brian Schrader was very happy with his team's performance today at Air Force. "Our women ground out a tough, gritty win today. We had a great cycle of training before and then had some athletes out with injury and illness. Great to see them take on a challenge. Maddie Myers was tough today and Sam Corea and Johanna Roas were their usual, fast consistent racers. "

The 200 free style featured a trio of Pioneers in the top five finishers. Maddie Myers, Morgan Mullenix, and Kacie Vanbuskirk all finished within two seconds of each other in this very tight race. Myers went on to win the 500 freestyle with a narrow victory .2 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Another top finish was nabbed by Sam Corea when she swam to victory in the 100 back stroke. Her time of 55.06 was a second and a half ahead of the second place finisher from Grand Canyon. Her strong day continued when she won the 200 backstroke with a time 2:00.52.

Not to be out done, Amanda Sanders jumped in the pool to claim victory in a very tight race. With a time of 1:05.09 she finished just ahead of her competition. This was her second victory in the pool today as well.

Johanna Roas was fractions of a second away from claiming another top finish on the day. She had posted a time of 23.90 which was just .16 seconds away from the first place finish. That second place finish didn't linger with Roas for long. She took on the 100 free style and claimed her second first place finish of the day with a time of 51.34.

The relay team Roas, Mullenix, Corea, and Zoe Huddelston took to the pool for the 400 relays. This quartet claimed yet another top finish for the Pioneers with a time of 3:28.49.

The Pioneers were the top finisher in today's meet finishing first over Air Force and Grand Canyon University.

The Pioneers next meet is the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa next month.
