TULSA, OKLA - The Pioneers went into their second five-set match of the weekend against Oral Roberts University on Sunday afternoon in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Match results were 29-27, 29-31, 19-25, 25-18, and 15-8 with Denver taking the win. The victory puts the Crimson and Gold at a 22-6 season (11-3 in Summit League play).
Denver and Oral Roberts remained in close competition throughout the first and second sets, but ORU took the lead with the third. Similar to Friday night's match with South Dakota, Denver was put in a tough position to take back the lead. With the leadership of Moni Corrujedo, who recorded 24 kills at a .345 hitting percentage, they were able to do so in the fourth and fifth sets.
Other team-high results came from senior Bailey Karst with 58 assists, freshman Cassidy Rooke and sophomore Monique Domme with two service aces apiece, senior Kate Acker with 18 digs, and junior Sarah Schmid and sophomore Ruth Okoye with four block assists apiece.
"It was another tough road match," head coach Jesse Mahoney noted. "ORU played well and served lights out. We made some adjustments in the fourth set and our team got refocused and executed well down the stretch. Ten sets on the weekend is plenty and we are looking forward to some recovery time this week and finishing conference play at home next weekend."
The Pioneers' next match will take place in Hamilton Gymnasium this Friday, November 14 against IUPUI at 7:00 p.m. MT. Fans will also be able to view live stats through .
