Coach Brian Schrader was thrilled with his teams performance this weekend. "This might be our best meet as a group in the fall since I have been here. Our athletes were really motivated to swim well. They have been training well, and also trying to gather some deep focus on a few technique things to implement. We saw good results on both of those focal points. Really pleased with our relay swims on the women's side of things-- school and summit league records are a great way to look at the rest of the season and ask them ...now where do you want to go? The men's relays showed some great promise as well...I think our 400 Free and 800 Free relays were our second fastest ever, and it just motivates us to be better. We saw great swims and best times from seniors down to freshmen athletes, distance swimmers to sprinters, and i think that always makes you better as a group and helps people be motivated. "
He continued highlighting performances of the weekend "We have some relays and individuals ranked on a national level. We need to celebrate that and then move on to work on how to get faster during this next part of the season. I think Dylan Bunch and Sam Corea will in all likelihood be competing at NCAAs, and see if we can have the rest of our team with NCAA standards make sure they punch their tickets as well. It truly is fun to see "Denver" in the polls and event rankings. We have a great thing going training in the Rocky Mountains and providing a quality education at a great institution, and our student athletes are getting it done. "
Coach Schrader isn't dwelling on the good weekend his team had "
we want to see if we can go back to training and training at a higher level to see if we can build and go faster than our peformances this weekend. Our dual meet schedule coming up will be challenging but great preparation to get ready for Summit League championships. We have two teams we race that are their conference champion or runner up -- Boise are Mountain West Champs. BYU is MPSF champions.... WYO were runners up in the WAC. All have NCAA qualifiers and all will be great competition and give us great challenges in every event. They will bring out our best and help us be great at the end of the season. " Pioneers swimming will head to training camp in San Diego on Thursday. This two a day camp will take place on Coronado Island. They will be out there for eight days then break for the holidays.
