Saturday Final Results

Iowa City- Day two of the Hawkeye Invitational has concluded and it was another solid day for the Pioneers.

In the women's 200 medley relay yet another school record was set along with a first place finish. The quartet of Johanna Roas, Amanda Sanders, Sam Corea, and Drew Matthews posted a time of 1:39.26.

Amanda Sanders also set a school record in the 100 breast stroke and grabbed a second place finish. Sanders time was not only a record set, but also a time that qualifies as an NCAA Standard B cut.

Sam Corea had yet another impressive day as she also set yet another record for the school. Starting with her performance in the 100 backstroke where she won and posted a time of 52.39. Johanna Roas in that same heat grabbed second place just behind Corea. Zoe Huddleston also made a finals apperance and finished fourth with a time of 55.41.

Corea's day continued when she went on to win the 100 yard butterfly. Her time of 52.83 put ahead of the other swimmers to grab first. Drew Matthews also qualified for finals in the 100 yard butterfly.

Morgan Mullenix claimed a spot in the finals in the 200 freestyle. She swam for a time of 1.51.69 that placed her sixth in the finals race.

Maddie Myers posted a time of 4:15.87 in the 400 IM. That time claimed first place and also qualified as a NCAA B Standard cut. In that same race Clara Jenck took fourth posting her time of 4:21.44. Clara Jenck also qualified for finals in the 400 IM. Her time of 4:21.44 was good enough to grab her fourth place in the finals heat.

Denver Pioneers Women's swimming won five out of the seven swimming events.

"The relay wins were great" said Coach Brian Schrader. "Drew Matthews threw an outstanding anchor leg in the 200 medley."

The Men's swimming also had a good Saturday. Starting with the 200 yard free style where the trio of, Ray Borman(1:35.98), Lukas Williams (1.37.63), and Dylan Bunch (1.37.96) took first through third. The three of them posted times that qualify as NCAA Standard B cuts. Ray Borman also won the 200 freestyle with his time of 1:35.98.

Jerimiah Zgliczynski continued his strong weekend when he won the 400 IM with his time 3:51.81, which qualifies as a NCAA Standard B cut time. Jarimiah also finished three seconds ahead of the second place finisher in this finals race. Lane Bretschneider and Ben Severino also qualfied for the finals in the 400 IM. The sophmore duo finished third and fourth with Bretschneider taking third and Serverino taking fourth. The two of them made it a close finish at the finish line with Bretschneider's time of 3:56.08 finishing just ahead of Severino's 3:56.25. Darian Brunetti also qualified for the finals in this event. He took eighth place with his time of 3.57.97.

The Pioneers went on to win the 800 freestyle relay. Ray Borman, William Van Dehy, Dylan Bunch, and Lukas Williams took first. Also the team dropped 18.31 seconds off their preliminary qualifying time. Coach Schrader liked what he saw from Van Dehy "he had a great leg on our winning 800 freestyle relay." Ray Borman, William Van Dehy, Tim Cottam, and Andrew Torres qualified for finals in the 200 yard medley relay. AS a quartet they took third in the final heat. Torres also qualified for finals in the 100 yard butterfly. The junior took sixth in the finals heat with a time of 48.59.

Borman, along with Anton Loncar, and Jared Smith qualified for finals in the 100 yard backstroke. Loncar took third, Smith took fourth, and Borman took fifth.

Travin Greenwold clinched a spot in the 100 yard breaststroke. As a sophmore he had a time of 55.98 that placed him fifth finishing just behing the fourth place finisher.

Van Dehy also had a good showing in the 200 medley relay that caught his coach's eye. "He had a great anchor in the 200 medley". He posted a split time of 19.95.

Coach Schrader also likes what he saw from Sophmore Lukas Williams. "He's stepping into new roles on our team. He was great in the 200 free relay today."

The final day of the Hawkye invitational wraps up Sunday December, 7th.
